Current mood: Crazed, homicidal, neurotic, pissed off

Oh well, my Grandfather always said “It’s better to be pissed off, than pissed on”

I went to talk to my adviser today, he was actually in a really good mood. That doesn’t happen often, it wasn’t at all like the last visit. He actually seemed like he wanted to help me.

I got a letter from the lovely people at the student loan company informing me that my graduation date had been updated…to May 2009. WTF? It is supposed to be December 2008! So I then panic and pace back and forth through the house scaring the bejezus out of the dogs. I calm down just long enough to send an email to RF politely asking to meet with him at his convenience then return to pacing and freaking the fuck out.

I went in today and RF looked at my credits and said that I will be one hour short. OK, again, one hour, not one course, one fucking hour! He actually pushed his chair back from his desk like he is used to having undergrads come over it and attack him. He said exactly what my friend Tim predicted he would. “Come back in April after you pick your Summer and Fall courses and we will see where we are then.”

I was on the fence about graduating in December because I really want to take a capstone course from my French Rev professor, all of the others until now looked terrible. Today RF told me that Stuart England is being taught as a capstone in the fall. If I can graduate in December, I want to take that one instead of waiting for Dr. S. I need to get the hell out of there before they find another reason to keep me there.

The upside of today is that I might have inadvertently shamed some of my classmates into going to vote in the democratic primary!

Early voting in Texas

I got my Obama shirt! Husbear thinks it’s a little fug, and it is, but I didn’t want a plain boring one. Plus the ones on his website are all backlogged, it takes forever to get them. I can’t even get a yard sign.

Hushbear and I went to vote in the primary today, in Texas you can early vote from the 18th to the 29th and can go to any polling location. They make it super easy, you don’t even have to have your voter registration card, your ID is enough. They just look you up in the computer. There is really no reason to not vote in the primary here, it is so easy and takes little effort.

I was so excited because there was actually a line at the polling location! We got there and all of the booths were filled, and I would say that there were about 15 people ahead of us. I don’t think I heard a single person saying that they were voting Republican. Now let’s just hope that they weren’t republicans going and voting for Hillary since McCain already has it in the bag.

I hate people who say that they are going to vote in the other party’s primary to mess with the results. That’s really shitty. That is not the point of voting, just keep your ass at home.

I also hate people who say “It doesn’t matter who you vote for, just vote!!!!!” The fuck it doesn’t. I think everyone should vote, but I don’t think you should vote blindly. Know what you want, don’t vote in elections that you don’t know anything about. One of the guys that works with Hushbear was urging his wife to vote in 2004. She had no clue who to vote for and asked him who she should pick. The dumbass got very dramatic and said “It doesn’t matter, vote for Bush, vote for Kerry, who cares, just vote!!!!”

No, no, no, no, no! Don’t just vote! Seriously, if you don’t care, just stay home. It obviously doesn’t matter to you. Stop telling people that they have to vote and it doesn’t matter for whom. It does matter!

We have a system here in Texas that allows you to vote in the primary and again in the caucus. At the Obama rally at the Toyota Center on Tuesday (it was freaking packed, capacity is 19,000 and I think it was at capacity) they were passing out pamphlets telling people how to do both. You have to get a receipt showing that you voted in the primary, but it’s easy to do that. The guy running the line I was in asked if I wanted to vote in the caucus and gave me my receipt.

The guy in Hushbear’s line didn’t ask or offer. The woman in front of Hushbear asked him twice if she was getting the ticket for the caucus and he said yes, she had all she needed. All I could see in her hands were her instructions on what to ask for and her code for the voting machine. I am going to hope that he gave it to her and I just didn’t see it. I don’t want to put my tinfoil hat on and think he was purposely not giving it to people.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Some days I hate my position on free speech. I do not believe that people should be censored. So I can’t say that I want the Obama campaign to make this woman take down her Che flag. It is her right to have it up there.

That said, as she is representing HERSELF as part of his campaign, she needs to take the damn thing down. Then she needs to make an official statement that she alone put it up. That she alone opened an independent office and the Obama campaign had no knowledge of this flag prior to the Fox news report. They have had 2 separate stories about it, the original and then the one where they interviewed her and she walked off camera.

Perez freaking Hilton has jumped on it. He is a Hillary supporter but has been very quiet since Obama started kicking ass. Luckily, many of the site’s readers have jumped all over him.

"Joe, I don’t do nuance."

According to my George W. Bush Out of Office Countdown calendar hushbear got me for XMas, we only have 340 days left!

We went out to dinner with D&T at London Sizzler tonight, then went out for beignets. I ate at LS, but stayed away from the beignets. I am trying to stay with Skinny Bitch since it is working so well thus far.

As hushbear and I were leaving LS I made him reverse and take a picture of a car, I might embed it here later. It had the best collection of bumper stickers ever! The sticker on the back window said “We Support the Troops.” The one on the bottom said Semper Fi, it was the one in between those that got me. It said “Bush Es Un Pendejo.”

The message I got from it? Marines support the troops, but think Bush is an asshole!

The Che Guevara flag in the Obama office that is getting so much attention is just silly. It is a volunteer office, not an official one directly affiliated with his campaign. The lady who put it up is a Cuban-American immigrant and I don’t think she thought it would be an issue. She is trying to get Houston’s huge Latino population motivated to vote for Obama. It was the action and decision of an individual. Obama did not come put that up himself, people need to just get over it.

Happy hour at the pharmacy!

Well, actually it was outside of the pharmacy. No, we did not give out shots of Patron with every Vicodin filled. Hushbear & I met PICGirl, TravoltaTech, RPhGuy and RPhGuy’s friend for drinks and dinner tonight at Chuy’s It was RPhGuy’s birthday last Saturday and TravoltaTech’s birthday is this Sunday. BoyTech decided to be lame and study for an exam he has tomorrow.

It was actually fun, it is always a bit iffy when you go out with co-workers. Even if you have fun at work, it can be uncomfortable when taken outside of the pharmacy. We didn’t even warp into RX talk until the very end.

Hushbear is a little shell-shocked, we have a very young pharmacy. Our ages range from 28 to 23, RPhGuy and I are both 28 (yeah, only for a couple of months, but still, I’m not 29 yet!) BoyTech is the youngest and I can’t remember if he is 23 or 24. Hushbear is 31 (& 1/2) so he was feeling really old.

I think we will be going out again in April. My Birthday and PICGirl’s fall a week apart, so me thinks drinks might be a good idea again.

I have successfully found ways not to study for the past 3 days. I am now officially 9 hours behind in videos for my American History through film, and need to get on it. Our mid-term is on March 4th.

This semester is sucking much more than the past few. I just can’t get in the groove. I have to determine (by April) if it’s me that is dragging or the classes. That’s when I have to sign up for Summer and Fall classes. If it’s me, then I think I just need to take the craptastic Native American capstone and get the hell out, instead of delaying graduation by a semester to take the French Revolution capstone I want.

I think it’s time for another drink, the margaritas are wearing off…

New Orleans…FUBAR?

Our trip to New Orleans was a lot of fun. It is great to see how the city is rebuilding and it was nice to drop a bunch of money into the economy there. The problem is, it’s the tourist areas that have been repaired/rebuilt everything else is still fucked.

On I-10 right outside of the downtown area you can still see houses with their roofs torn off, houses with all of the windows broken out. The homeowners are all being screwed over (be it by the government or the insurance companies.) They lost everything and many can’t afford to go back.

RPhGuy is from NOLA and his family moved back there. We were talking about it and he has a very good point. It was important for New Orleans to get the tourist areas fixed. That is their economy right now. They had to get that looking relatively normal to bring people back in. It’s still surreal to drive around outside of the French Quarter and the Garden District to see the destruction this long, almost 2 & 1/2 years after Katrina.

You can still see water lines on some of the buildings. Houses still have the FEMA codes spray painted on the front of them. I read somewhere a while back that some of the residents are keeping it up even when they repair their houses to remind people of what happened. It’s uncomfortable to look at it. It really brings home the realization of what these people went through (and are still going through) but I think it is important that no one forgets it.

We drove through the east side and people are slowly rebuilding in subdivisions. You can drive down a street and see the FEMA codes on all the houses, roofs with holes in them, walls completely missing, then one house out of the 20 or so on the street looks almost normal. Many people have FEMA trailers parked in their front yards, with the house behind them destroyed.

We didn’t know what the FEMA codes meant, but at one house it said 2 dogs. Stupid me thought “Oh good, they found someone’s dogs.” Then I realized that the dogs were dead and the date on the house was 09/30/05. It took them that long to get to this neighborhood. What if there were people trapped inside some of these houses?

I want to pay closer attention to the debates, I want to vote for Obama, but I want to hear what the democrats are going to do in places like NOLA. Louisiana overwhelmingly voted for Obama in the primary. Hopefully that’s a step in the right direction.

I’ll put up pictures once hushbear gets them off of the camera, or I may borrow some from one of my friends. He took more than we did, hushbear was driving and it didn’t occur to me to take the camera from him.

Nancy Pelosi is having a religious epiphany

Husbear has formally requested to be called hushbear now, not really sure why, but I’ll roll with it.

Hushbear and I were in New Orleans this weekend and on the drive home were listening to the POTUS channel on XM. It’s so cool, all election coverage all the time.

Pelosi was being interviewed and was asked a question about Bush. She said, “Bless his heart, but he’s just wrong.” I laughed so hard. I find her to be frightening and strange (have you seen how the woman blinks?) but that was awesome.

Then she prefaced every slam or praise with “God Bless him” or “God bless them.” i.e. “John [McCain], God bless him…” or “The troops in Iraq, God bless them…” you get the point. It was odd, I’m not sure WTF was with that.

Speaking of female democrats that scare me…Hillary Clinton.

I am so sick of hearing women say that they plan on voting for her because she is a woman. I don’t think that is a good enough reason to vote for her! I think she is wrong for the country.

I am not one of those people who say she is too ambitious, I admire women who are goal oriented. The problem with Senator Clinton is that becoming the first woman president seems to be her only goal. I don’t think that she wants to be president for the people as much as she just simply wants the position. I think her goal is the title and the prestige, not the job.

I am also sick of people who say “a vote for Hill is a vote for Bill.” I just say STFU.

There is only one step from the sublime to the ridiculous -Napoléon

Edwards is out.

It’s Barack vs. Hillary to the death (or the convention). Is it even possible that the convention isn’t until August 25th? Isn’t this shit over yet? This is the longest freaking election ever. August isn’t even the end, then the mud slinging begins between the parties. At least they can stop picking on each other then. (Though oh how I love a good Hillary bashing.)

The semi-sublime: Some are predicting that Obama will pick up 60% of Edwards’s votes. That only leaves 40%, lets just all hope they don’t all go to scary Hillary.

I guess it is time to go get that Barack the Vote t-shirt after all.

…and now for the ridiculous, I think I am going to postpone graduating until May 2009. My French revolution professor is teaching an intensive course (capstone) and it’s not offered until then.

My option if I want to graduate earlier is to take Native Americans and Missions in Colonial America. I actually cringe when I think about taking that as my intensive study class. There aren’t really other options.

Now I have to decide if I am better off taking a course I have no interest in and graduating in December, or waiting and taking a course I want to and graduating a semester late.

Barbara Walters, you’re our only hope!

Sherri Shepherd has no business being on a television show where she is actually allowed to speak. If all she had to do was read lines she would bug me, but whatever, to actually allow that woman to express her opinion to the public is just freaking stupid.

In the past, she has expressed confusion over simple things. She isn’t sure if the world is flat. She said that no one predates Jesus and today… she announced that she has never voted before. The woman is 41, not voting isn’t what worries me, it’s the fact that she plans on voting now.

I try my hardest to get people to register to vote, but I never push people who don’t know anything about the candidates to blindly vote. I think that really defeats the purpose of the system.

This moron went on to say that she is going to vote in this election, because if she doesn’t vote, she won’t have a right to complain on The View about whomever is elected for an entire year. Um, an entire year? Lady, you Make Elizabitch Hasselbeck look smart.

Barbara, please get this idiot off of the TV. You canned Debbie Whatsherfaceopoulus, throw this moron out on her ass.

Stupid-stick day

It wasn’t just your average stupid stick day though, no, not today. Today every person that got hit with the stupid stick on their way in also were given a pair of whiney or a pair of annoying pants. (Or in some cases both.)

I get to the pharmacy and RPhGuy is hopping. He has already turned away 2 people with party packs, he’s got 14 left in the queue several on the counter and a whiney person at drop off. As usual, that set the tone for the day.

About 30 minutes after I got there, we had 4 people waiting (both the flu and strep-throat are going around) and Mrs. McGrumpy walks up. You know, mean old lady, thinks you should drop everything to help her. She of course had her brand new Medicare Part D card with her refill. I said “OK Mrs. McGrumpy, we’ll get this ready for you, I have several people ahead of you so it should be about 30 minutes.”

Guess what she says! Yep you got it! “It’s only 30 pills, it really shouldn’t take that long.” People, people people, this is the last thing you want to say to the person you just gave your refill too. He or she can stretch 30 minutes into 2 hours if they so desire. Mysterious “computer issues” Medicare Part D being down etc.

But, I put on my biggest smile with my fuck you eyes and told her we have about 20 people waiting. Yes, I had padded the estimate (she had Medicare Part D for crying out loud!) and if she hadn’t been such a bitch I probably would have been done in 15 minutes, but because she acted like an ass, guess what…she got to wait 30 minutes. In fairness, she actually shopped and came back, she wasn’t just standing at the counter staring.

RPhGuy rang her up, so I was spared speaking to her, though I would have loved to suggest that she begin calling in her refills before driving to the pharmacy to save herself some time.

Next comes in Mrs. Whiney Pants herself. Mrs. “I’m so dizzy, I can’t wait for my rx” Mrs. “I am going to call you every day for a week to make sure you are still going to fill my Xanax on the exact day it’s due, since you won’t let me fill it early anymore” She did stand at the counter, and pace, and tell us over and over again how dizzy she was. RPhGuy got irritated and told her it would be 20 minutes, but I asked him just to get her the hell away from out the pharmacy counter.

After lunch:

It’s a new year folks, and you know what that means! New copays and deductibles! Wouldn’t you know it, almost no one knew this would happen. What really got to me was a lady with a $5.60 rx that went up in price. she kept saying “did that go up? That went up.” So I looked, sure enough it used to be $3.10. Not only that but HER OTHER ONE WENT UP AS WELL!!!!!!! It went from $1 to $2.25. This did not make her happy, then she started complaining to RPhGuy about how her pain meds weren’t working and could she have become immune to them? She started crying, I decided it was a good time to busy myself with anything else.

Before I left, we were treated to a lady wanting to know if we had the Natures Made diabetic vitamin pack. I stopped what I was doing and went to the OTC section and looked. I didn’t see it, so I asked her when she purchased it last. Turns out she got it at “the drug store” (as opposed to my non-drug store I guess?) I smiled and told her that our company might not have the same inventory as another company. “But the drug store had it, I don’t understand why you don’t!” I gave up and started to walk away. She asked me what vitamin diabetics could take, I sent RPhGuy out to talk to her.

I also got to tell 2 guys that Xanax 2mg is on backorder with no expected release date. “Sometimes it could be 2 months, sometimes it could be 2 years, we never know.” I suggested calling the doctor to see if he/she knows where to get it or going to an outpatient clinic.

Now I get to write up a personality assessment on myself for my personality psychology class based on the NEO-FFM test I had to take this weekend. I am so not in the mood for self analysis. I guess I should just be glad I did it this weekend instead of after work today.
