…or fuckthemorningbs 1st trimester sickness as my friend T called it. Although more correctly it would be called fucktheentiredaybs sickness.
I’m wearing Sea-Bands and had hoped they would help, but I’m guessing not. Yesterday I moved them around a bit and within 5 minutes felt better. Today I have moved them in every position I can think of and nothing…
I’m fine when I first wake up, but then it goes downhill. I had heartburn Wednesday and a little bit today. I am counting down for this magical 2nd trimester when I am going to feel wonderful etc. It can’t come soon enough. All I do now is sleep and try not to throw up. My mom keeps saying that it’s good that I’m sick because it means my hormone levels are high.
I am mildly embarrassed because Dr. S came in before class on Thursday and asked me how I was feeling (as I was trying not to throw up). He told me that I had done well on my paper and asked me if I still plan on going to grad school. He seems quite pleased that I am interested which is a good thing.
I’ve figured out that I need letters of recommendation from “three faculty members who know [my] work.” Hmmm…..I know I can probably ask Dr. S (or at least I hope I can), other than that I’m not really sure. I might be able to ask one of my professors from this semester and one from next semester.
This has me considering taking another junior level course from a professor that fills prescriptions at my pharmacy. I just don’t have a lot of contacts at UH. I’ve built a relationship with Dr. S (not intentionally) by taking his classes. I haven’t really taken any small classes like that where the professor would know who I am. Hopefully that won’t pose a problem when I go to apply.
I worked Wednesday and people annoyed the shit out of me, but I was so sick I can’t remember what they did..
Undecided? Really?
Seriously? Who at this point in this election could possibly still be undecided????
It’s not like we have apples & apples here people. McCain has worked his ass off to become a hardcore Republican. He is no longer the McCain of 2000.
…and really, if the obvious differences between the candidates themselves weren’t enough to convince you, then all I have to say is Sarah Palin.
A little over 8 months to go…
I found out on Tuesday night that I am pregnant! I took 3 tests that night just to confirm! I’m so excited and I think hushbear is too. We started trying in August, so it really didn’t take very long. I’ve had blood work done and have more doctor’s appointments next week and the week after.
I am due around 07/07/09 (so says the iVillage.com due-date calculator). I’ve had random bouts of queasiness and lots of dry heaving, but nothing too bad. I’m really sleepy, but that might just be burn out from last week. It seems a bit early for it to be related to the pregnancy.
I won’t be posting ultrasound pictures (because I find that to be very disturbing), but here are the pregnancy tests:
Hell might have frozen over
I went in to see my adviser and he was lovely. Just happy, helpful, wonderful. He is my new favorite person. He checked my hours and said I am all systems go for graduating in May! He actually said that I can probably apply now because fall applications are finished. I figure I will just wait until after I add classes on the 12th.
I have a good schedule next semester:
- French Revolution historiography capstone (with Dr. S) Wednesday 1-4
- US 1945-1960 Tu/Th 1-2:30
- French lecture Tu/Th 10-12
- French lab Th 12-1
I hope this will give me extra time because I have been running my ass off this semester. I feel like I haven’t stopped going since it started.
RF did point out that the French class is 5 hours which puts me at 11 hours for the semester when I only need 9 more to graduate. I would take something else that’s just 3, but I don’t see anything that I want to take (and Dr. S said I should take French).
This week has been total hell and I am so glad it is almost over. Over the past week I have taken 3 exams, 1 quiz and turned in an 11 page paper. Everything wound up falling around the same time.
PICGirl asked me to work Wednesdays this month and I told her I probably could. It’s just for an hour & 1/2 which wouldn’t be worth going in for if I didn’t live down the street. Let’s see how many people can annoy me in 1.5 hours!
I got some more good news yesterday, but I’ll save it for another post.
Why am I wasting time on a blog entry?
This week is the suck. I had a quiz in French today, Dr. S volunteered me to lead the discussion tomorrow in Comp Rev (and since I sucked so much last time I really have to do well this time), I have a mid-term tomorrow in Modern France, and mid-term in Gender Psychology Saturday.
Aaaagggggghhhhhh!
For the modern France exam he gave us 9 possible essay questions but didn’t tell us how many we would have to chose from or how many we have to answer. A few of the questions:
- Between the Paris Commune & WWI, Montmartre evolved from a bastion of revolutionary politics to a bastion of revolutionary art & entertainment. Ironically, whereas the Parisian bourgeoisie shunned the neighborhood in 1871, they flocked to it by the end of the century. What attracted them? Why?
- The 1905 separation of church & state had a number of consequences, good as well as bad, for French Catholicism. Briefly describe the events that led to the official separation & what ensued for the church.
- There appears to have been a relationship between symbolism (& later surrealism) and anarchism in fin-de-siècle France. What brought together these two movements? Don’t forget to define both one & the other, as well as identify individuals associated with them.
- Historians argue that the French political right had three strands. Identify & define all three & briefly explain why one of these movements had a longer life span than the other 2.
- The horse-drawn carriage in Maupassant’s “Boule de Suif” represents a microcosm of French society in 1870. Does either depiction carry the hope of social & political unity in republican France? Briefly explain why.
Frack.

I’m so excited!
The line for early voting was wrapped around the building! That is amazing! I didn’t have time to wait since I have 2 exams this week and a paper due next week, but I will go back!
I sometimes go on election day before or after class and usually don’t have a problem getting in, but this year I don’t want to risk not making it in time.
Early voting from October 20th to October 31st. For locations and additional information go to The Houston Chronicle or to HarrisVotes.

I <3 Joey forever!
Yeah, I went to the New Kids on the Block concert last night and it was awesome! The last time I saw them live I think I was 10 or 11.
You can tell hat the guys are having a lot of fun on this tour. Jonathan Knight has a severe anxiety problem, but you could barely tell. Halfway through the show they moved to the other side of the Toyota center and were right in front of us. Jon jumped up on the piano they had there and the other guys looked shocked.
I think Donnie is having the most fun out of all of them, but they all seem to be enjoying it. I wasn’t really feeling up to going, but I’m glad that I did. It was fun and it brought back so many memories of childhood.
I would do a longer post about it, but I seriously doubt the 3 of you that actually read this thing have any interest in it at all!
