More Sydney fashion!

Wow. There are some really special ones in this batch!

Swimwear as everyday wear. I realize in Sydney we are very close to beaches, but seriously. Everyone seems to have swimsuits on under their clothes. Last year I was down at Darling Harbour and a woman in a business suit took off her jacket and shirt and had a swimsuit on underneath. She pulled a blanket out of her bag, set it on the ground to tan. I thought Aussies were afraid of skin cancer…

The girl in the first picture was wearing her bikini and some sort of wrap as a shirt. Her friend was dressed normally in a dress and didn’t seem to have a suit on. The friend even had a couple of shopping bags with her.

Quilted skirt. Nothing further.

Who wears short-shorts? Yellow muscle shirt, black tank top and… high top sneakers of course! What else would one wear with such an outfit? He has to be European. He’s too pale to be from Australia and when Aussie guys wear short-shorts they are always cut off denim.

Yes, that’s right. Cut-off denim shorts. The more frayed the better and usually accompanied by a rat tail dyed blond. Oh yes, it’s a bad 80s remake here everyday.

I think this next one deserves two pictures. I hope that’s her dad… I’m just going to leave this one to Pat Benatar

“We can’t afford to be innocent
Stand up and face the enemy
It’s a do or die situation
we will be
invincible!

There was even more awesomeness from the back!

…and on to the next 80s looks.

Let’s talk about the girl on the right first. Leopard-print waiter style jacket, a shirt torn in several places across the neck, short cut off shorts, teased hair which was mostly pulled back, strange gladiator like sandals, and a very sassy walk.

Now the girl on the left was amazing. She was wearing some Flashdance type ensemble. She had leggings, the cut t-shirt (pulled off one shoulder of course), tank under it all, and was rockin’ one hell of a headband.

Again with the songs, I know, but this is quite fitting –Maniac by Michael Sembello

“Just a steel town girl on a Saturday night, lookin’ for the fight of her life
In the real-time world no one sees her at all, they all say she’s crazy…

It can cut you like a knife, if the gift becomes the fire
On a wire between will and what will be

She’s a maniac, maniac on the floor
And she’s dancing like she’s never danced before
She’s a maniac, maniac on the floor
And she’s dancing like she’s never danced before”

This guy reminded me of Peter MacNicol in Ghostbusters II. “I ain’t afraid of no ghost!” It’s too bad the picture isn’t that great. Hushbear took it through a window of the restaurant we were eating at. He had the most amazing pair of hammer pants on.

The backwards t-shirt trend is also very big here. I’ve seen at least 10 women with various shirts, sweaters, etc. worn backwards. I have yet to see it in a store though. Are they trying to start a fashion trend? Don’t they remember Kris Kross? “Daddy Mac will make you Jump! Jump!”

As Vanessa Williams said I’ve “went and saved the best for last“. I’m not sure that this is actually the best, there are some really good ones in the bunch, but I thought this was a good one to end with.

This little fashionista (fashionisto?) was something special. He was really working the outfit. He got one of my first “Oh, poor girl. Do you think she knows her boyfriend is gay?” comments since we’ve been here. I’ll make no further comments, I’ll just let you enjoy.

Sydney fashion

We’ve been here for 24 hours and the fashion trends are…special this year. All of the men are still rocking the shark (aka the fauxhawk). Gladiator sandals have finally hit Sydney and almost every woman is wearing some version of that.

These are just a few choice pictures of people seen in the 2 hours we spent walking around before our room was ready.

As Tara points out all the time, you really shouldn’t mix animal prints. Yes, that’s zebra topped with some leopard fluff.

Like I said, gladiator sandals are big right now.

As is normally the case, this was much worse form the front. I couldn’t really run in front of her and snap a picture though. I can only hope that she lost a bet. No one would wear this voluntarily.

I’ll update this post as the trip goes on. I know the pictures are small, so for the larger one go to my picasaweb page.

Sydney…

still rocks. I still wish to move here. Although I went to sleep at 3:30 (to take a quick nap to recover from the flights) and slept until 3 am! Ooops!

We’re going to Paddington market today and perhaps another market. I’ve got some great pictures of Sydney fashion; I will upload them soon.

Resolutions

I don’t usually make New Year resolutions. I usually figure that would just give me something to break. I’ve decided to give it a go this year.

  1. I resolve to worry less and relax more
  2. I resolve to have more fun (that kinda goes with #1)
  3. I resolve to curb my temper
  4. I resolve to keep my house clean (or at least cleaner)
  5. I resolve to spend more time with Hushbear
  6. I resolve to be nicer to Hushbear (he gets the brunt of my temper)
  7. I resolve to study earlier so I don’t have a week of frantic stress (kinda goes with #1)

That’s it. Like I said, I don’t usually do resolutions. I just wanted something written down so I can go back to it and see how I’m doing.

Chills

I’m watching Keith Olbermann’s year end show right now (I kind of love him) and of course it is all about the election. When they showed the media outlets declaring Obama the winner I got chills all over again.

I was at home by myself the night of the election. (I think hushbear was out eating, big surprise.) I was studying and watching the results and am not ashamed to admit that I was so happy I almost cried.

I had found out exactly one week prior that I was pregnant. This election made me so happy and hopeful. It’s old news and I’m not going to go into it again, but it surprised me that I am still so emotional about the election.

Merry Blueberry

I decided that I wanted to get something for my mom & hushbear that represents the baby. Since he/she didn’t make it past blueberry size I decided to try to find a blueberry ornament for them. I wanted something that could be out all year, not just something for the tree. This is what I found, it’s called “Merry Blueberry”:

It’s not exactly blueberry in size or design, but I thought it was nice. I made my mom open it when it arrived so it could go on the tree for Christmas. The other one has not arrived here yet, but I hope it comes soon. Not that Hushbear celebrates Christmas, but still.

milestones

I wonder when this will stop. Every Thursday was progress day. Today would have been 11 weeks. At 11 weeks, the baby would have been the size of a fig or a lime. (Yeah, the food comparisons are just too cute.) This is what I found out about development this week:

“Your fetus currently enjoys a 1:1 ratio between body and head, and has skin so transparent that blood vessels show right through. But, fingers and toes are no longer webbed, and hair follicles, tooth buds and nail beds are forming — setting up a significantly more attractive future.”

How do I know this? I got an email update from a baby site today congratulating me on 11 weeks. I’ve already unsubscribed from this site. Numerous times. I think I’ll forward a link to my blog with my next unsubscribe message.

My baby stopped developing after week 7. That means he or she made it only made it to blueberry size. That’s so very tiny. I know there is nothing I could do. I know that. But I feel like I wasn’t able to protect something the size of a blueberry while it was inside me.

Again, I know there is nothing I could do. It’s just strange the things that you think about. Fleeting thoughts can just grow and grow of you let them. I know if I don’t let it go it will drive me crazy. It’s just hard. I’m ok for the most part, but it just hits me sometimes.

Once I am pregnant again I know I will have new milestones to look forward to. I will have a new little one to be excited over. New worries & new happiness. I want to look forward to kumquat week, peach week, mango week, and eggplant month. Did you know that they compare the baby to a watermelon during the final month? Yikes!

I keep thinking about “next time”. As in, “next time I am going to relax more”, or “next time I am going to eat better”. “Next time I am not going to complain as much.” Next time…
