Looks like she’ll be a swimmer

I turned the water on to fill up the bathtub right before Zoë decided to pee on the floor in the hallway. I grabbed her and ran outside without turning the tap off.

When we finally made it back in she went tearing down the hall and I heard a splash. Yeah, she jumped in the bathtub and was doing something that resembled swimming.

It’s very lucky that I hadn’t had time to adjust the temperature or it would have been way too hot for her. I wanted to take a picture of her in there, but my phone was in the other room. She’s such a freak.

Does anyone own a cattle prod?

I need someone to force me to study. I have 2 weeks left and seem to have lost all of my motivation. Not good.

Another major birthday, another injury

Don’t look at the picture at the bottom if you are squeamish. (Tara this means you!)

Day before my 18th birthday I had a cystoscopy done because of a dual kidney infection and UTI. Day before my 21st birthday I tripped over Isabell and cut the bottom of my toe open. I wound up with stitches for that one. I figured with this Thursday being my 30th birthday I would break my arm or something. Nope. (A least I hope I won’t.) Instead I have a lovely somewhat Zoë induced injury to add to my birthday list.

Yesterday it was raining a lot. Like flooding in part of Houston including our backyard. I took Zoë out to potty and she was acting like a fool. She started tearing around the backyard. She went behind the pool and I couldn’t find her. I was worried that she had slipped under the fence again. I started running towards the gate and slipped. I managed to cut the top of my foot open on our hammock stand. It was kind of nasty. It looks okay now. We put butterfly bandages on it and it appears to have closed up already. Now if I could just get the girls to stop stepping on it. Good thing I got a pedicure on Friday!

Ouch

Ouch

It looks and feels much better today than it did yesterday!

Parlez-vous français?

As Dr. S reminds me every time I am in his office, I need to learn French. I was going to take it this semester, but on the advice of my adviser (why do I listen to him?) I did not. I would really like to take it this summer and get all of the basic stuff out of the way. Rice University offers language courses in the summer and anyone can enroll. I’ve more or less decided to do that, but I have to figure out which to take.

Option 1 is to take it over 8 weeks. It’s 3 hours of class per week (2 classes) spread out over 8 weeks.

Option 2 is to take it over 8 days. It’s 3 hours of classes per day for 8 days. (Plus another 2-3 hours of studying.)

Option 2 sounds a bit daunting, but everyone says you can learn a lot more when it is more intense. I took Spanish in summer school and feel that I retained more of what I took during the summer session than what I took during regular classes. I’m leaning towards option 2. Not only does it take less time (I’ll be done by June 12th!), I really think that I will learn more. Plus, I know this will sound elitist, but it’s at Rice and I have to assume that their language program might have an edge over Houston Community College (UH isn’t offering French this summer as they are going to France to study instead -lucky bastards).

Which brings me to option 3, which would be to take it over 10 weeks there. Option 4 would be to take the summer off and just take something in the fall.

Any opinions?

Random thought

Today in class I was having trouble concentrating (must have something to do with all the nausea) and I started thinking about the Duggar family. Anna, the first daughter-in-law, is pregnant and it made me think…Michelle & Jim Bob have 18 kids. If each of those 18 kids follows and has 18 kids, they could have over 300 grandchildren. Jeez.

My crowning glory…or not

Why is it that when you find a hair dresser that you really like they always move? The girl I go to was at Beautique which is right in the village and easy to get to. Then she moved to the Beautique out in Town & Country. That’s about a 30 minute drive, but I was willing to do it to stay with her. I was so happy when she decided to come back into town to work at The Upper Hand. That salon is fabulous! Now she has called to let me know that she’s moving to Natural Retreat at 290 & Spring Cypress, that’s at least a 45 minute drive. I just can’t follow her this time. (Unless the next person really screws up my hair that is!)

Adieu, Ashley Denae. I’ll miss you and my hair probably will too.

Really bad, really bad, really bad idea

I forgot to take my Lamictal last night before I went to sleep. Not a good idea for an epileptic who is well under control with medication. I woke up this morning feeling like crap with several bites on my tongue. I took my Lamictal along with a Klonopin this morning and stayed home today.

I almost never forget and the few times that I have it hasn’t been this bad. I think it’s a combination of forgetting the medication, stress, and not being able to keep it down Sunday night when I was so sick.

Other than a headache and a few twitches I feel okay now. Knock on wood it stays that way.
